A little information about Pilates:
Developed by German athlete Joseph
Pilates in the 1920's who designed a
series of exercises aimed at
rehabilitating people injured in the
war. He went on to train dancers and
athletes in New York and gradually the
Pilates method spread to the general
public becoming one of the most
popular forms of exercises today!
Pilates is a contemporary approach to
exercise and is a highly effective way
to shape up, slim down and feel great.
Pilates is a stress-relieving way to
achieve and maintain optimal fitness and
well being and develop a balanced,
strong supple body.
The Pilates programme:
The exercise routines are catered to
each individual's special needs. I will
show you how to perform exercises
correctly and as your body changes and
has new needs your workouts will be
adjusted accordingly, thereby always
offering you a challenging, safe and
revitalizing workout.
Pilates is a mind-body form of exercise,
involving a series of exercises, which
aim to strengthen the abdominal and back
area while working the rest of the
body. The abdominals and back are the
core of the body because they hold us
upright. Core strength is also referred
to as the powerhouse, this is the center
of your body (the abdominals, lower
back, buttocks and inner thighs. Pilates
routines are varied every time to keep
them interesting to people who don't
like repetition in their fitness
routines. The workout also differs from
person to person, as everybody has
different needs and ability.
All the Pilates exercises practice
correct breathing techniques and
skeletal placement. It helps people
become in touch with their bodies and
promises real results and body
awareness, it also aids in weight loss
as while you are doing Pilates your
metabolism rate increases. Pilates is
very popular with celebs, dancers,
sports men and woman as the benefits
include a stronger back and abdominals
as well as improved posture, body
awareness, flexibility and a slimmer
body. Dancers, athletes and sports men
and woman have to perform at their peak
ability and Pilates aids in this.
Benefits:
- Flexibility: The average adult spends
the day sitting at a desk, driving,
watching television and standing in
uncomfortable positions while commuting
or working. As a result, the body's
natural range of movement becomes more
and more restricted and it becomes vital
to stretch and exercise in order to
offset the effects of daily life.
Pilates is a wonderful way to stretch
your body and relax after or during a
tiring day. If you train or run
regularly, your need to stretch is even
greater because regular excessive
movement shortens the muscles, whereas
Pilates lengthens and tones your
muscles.
- Body Alignment: With its emphasis on
alignment and symmetry, Pilates is
particularly effective in balancing your
physique. Most people are more developed
on one side of their body than the
other. This can, for example, manifest
itself in one leg being slightly longer
than the other, or one shoulder muscle
feeling more flexible than the other.
Imbalance is also caused by repetitive
movement such as that as a tennis
player, golfer, rower, cricket player,
rugby player, in which particular muscle
groups are performing the same stroke
thousands of times asymmetrically.
- Mental Alertness: Pilates wrote about
"squeezing the air out of your lungs."
He believed that fully inhaling and
exhaling released toxins that cause
sluggishness and fatigue. It is now
generally accepted that breathing
effectively while exercising can improve
the quality of your blood supply and
therefore your level of alertness.
Pilates exercises help calm a cluttered
mind and produce clarity of thought.
- Stress Management: We all experience
stress sometimes, and it needs to be
managed if it is not to take control of
our lives. Many people find that the
combination of focusing, breathing
correctly and engaging the body with the
mind while exercising reduces the
effects of stress.
- Body Shape and Posture: One of the
main benefits of doing Pilates regularly
is that the body becomes streamlined.
The exercises are designed to promote
balance between the muscle groups and to
stretch the body. Your muscles become
lengthened and the powerhouse muscles
are in constant use, which improves your
overall body shape and posture.
Some other benefits include:
- increased strength
- relief from back and neck pain
- flatter abdominals and better posture
- increased circulation
- toned and firm body
- Enhanced performance (e.g. in work,
dance, yoga, concentration, health,
rugby, soccer, running, tennis, golf,
sports
everything!)
- Guaranteed visible results after 6 8
one hour sessions
