Natural high
by Con 3 Months ago
I got talking to a the lead guitarist in a club recently after a gig. He was telling me he used to useall kinds of stimulants including cocaine. Now he says he's discovered running and has a clear and consistent high. He feels terrific most of the time, without the lows he was used to having after coke. He reckons he wouldn't trade this feeling now for anything and he has met so many other runners who feel the same. Anyone else relate to this?

Hey Con, never been into drugs myself but after being on Morphine after my operation a couple of weeks ago I am a now a bit confused and think I am going to give up sport for a life of drugs

Only joking... I'll do some sport as well! Seriously though, after being off training for a couple of weeks and missing my endorphin rushes, it makes me wonder how you can live without sport. When you look at the short term highs that druggies have and how much they have to spend to get it, makes sport look like a good option

It was interesting listening to some of the British Gold Medallists being interviewed in London yetserday. One of the statements was repeated by a number of them; by getting really involved in sport their self- esteem improved incredibly. No drugs, just the endorphins worked well for them.

hmmm, it appears that everyone else at the Olympics had very low self esteem in comparison

It does make one wonder though what the Brits changed in their training to give them such an edge. I know that they changed the amount of money being poured into their sport after the last olympics but it is still incredible just how much of an edge they have over the traditional cycling countries like France, Spain, America and Australia.

Would love to get my grubby little paws on their training regime!
